South London collective and long-running NTS show Touching Bass have started up their own label, and their debut drop is a doozy. In collaboration with the Australian imprint Wondercore Island, Errol and Alex Rita’s crew have gifted us the debut solo LP from Clever Austin. Anyone who has dug Clever Austin’s work in Hiatus Kaiyote will find plenty to enjoy about Pareidolia. This is a record of gorgeous neo-soul grooves that incorporate elements of hip-hop and the exciting global nu-jazz wave. By and large the tracks on Pareidolia are short, sweet vignettes, but occasionally Clever Austin spreads his wings and delivers something more ambitious - try the astral exploration of CAZEAUX O.S.L.O.-featuring joint ‘Mother Ship Strip’.
