Visual artist and computer programmer Damon Zucconi makes his first foray into the world of music, and it’s a highly impressive one. Untitled Substance pits a series of tinny and dense club tracks against quizzically beautiful ambient vignettes. While the likes of ‘No Fun’ and ‘Glasshouse’ draw from hard techno and Baltimore club to create rigid and arresting DJ tunes, these are soon followed by the palette-cleansing interludes. As such, Untitled Substance holds the cerebral and the immediate in perfect balance. The record is not a million miles away from Daniel Avery or Clark.
