The fourth LP from Peter Sagan’s Homeshake project arrives via Sinderlyn (Cymbals Eat Guitars, Sleigh Bells). On Helium we find Mac Demarco’s buddy still moored in the home-spun indie sound that’s worked for him in the past, but also digging deeper into the r&b, hip-hop and ambient styles that have always floated at the edges of the Homeshake experience. ‘Like Mariah’ really does sound like Mariah, while ‘All Night Long’ opens with a charmingly cheap re-rendering of A$AP Ferg’s ‘Shabba’ before Sagan and some synths arrive to level the track out.
