A perfect summer jam from the Paul Institute’s Fabiana Palladino here. ‘Shimmer’ is another of those rose-tinted bedroom-funk numbers that Jai and A. K. Paul’s label are fast making their stock-in-trade. Palladino’s instrumental recalls the best of Blood Orange’s output, all slapping ‘80s r&b drums and glistening keys. Her arresting vocals, reminiscent of Chairlift’s Caroline Polachek, fairly soar atop the beat. Jai Paul lends a hand on synths, guitar, engineering and production.
