Alt-J goes hip-hop? Not exactly, but not far off either. Reduxer finds the great and the good of contemporary hip-hop and rap descend on the group’s 2017 LP Relaxer in order to give the thing a makeover. While it may initially appear an incongruous marriage of styles, the pieces begin to fit together when you hear the record. Alt-J’s melodious, slightly menacing brand of indie-pop proves easily amenable in the hands of beat-smiths such as Alchemist and Twin Shadow. The resulting record is a psych-rap delight. Danny Brown, Pusha T, GoldLink, Little Simz and Rejjie Snow are the most eye-catching vocal features.
