Co-founder of the enigmatic Gang of Ducks collective, Italian composer Alessio Capovilla has returned with his second studio album under the XIII moniker. Constructed with the use of a vintage Yahama EX5R, Eocity depicts in aural terms a landscape in which technology has failed but binary language survives. The result is a beautiful push/pull between the natural and the technological, conceptually captured by the EX5R’s attempt to replicate the sound of its acoustic counterparts. The first track on the album, ‘Part_N1â _Analysis’ does an effective job introducing XIII’s concept, a flux of organic sound transmuted through the lense of the artist’s mechanical vision. As Eocity continues the mood lifts on ‘The Boy’ and by the time we get to ‘Curve D'argentoâ ̄’ angelic exhales will leave you wishing you lived in a world where landscape emanated noise this sweetly.
