Matthew ‘Recloose’ Chicoine is now a veteran of more than two decades in the game, but back in 1997 he was working in a deli in his native Detroit and looking for a break. One day, who should pop in for a sandwich but Carl Craig. Chicoine slipped one of his demo tapes into the bag when he handed Craig his order, and a year later Craig was mixing tracks for Chicoine’s debut EP So This Is The Dining Room. Recloose wasn’t the only artist getting his start here - ‘Dislocate’ and ‘Noodles’ both feature saxophone played by a young Colin Stetson. Musically, the EP fuses Detroit techno sounds (naturally) with downtempo electronica, MPC jazz and breaks. Now reissued by Ghostly International.
