The co-founder of Neubau Records, Heap steps out here for Berceuse Heroique’s Brasserie Heroique series. The Brasserie Heroique releases were conceived as a run of disco edits with a difference, and this fifth installment is as weird and wacky as anything we’ve had so far. The three tracks here each sound as if they’re wading through treacle, with tempos rarely getting into triple-figures - ‘Tripper’, for instance, wheezes along as if it’s about to clap out at any moment. These slow-mo screws allow Heap to create intense sonic fugs akin to The Orb and early Andrew Weatherall. That’s not to say that they’re not groovy though - ‘Possessed By The Drums’ has a hypnotic intensity that slowly possesses the listener.
