Samuel Kerridge returns to Downwards to rip up the rulebook one again with three tracks of mutant industrial-strength DNB tempo bangers.
Utilising his razor-sharp ear for sickening arrangements, The Silence Between Us is the sound of Kerridge turning techno on its head once again. Much like his haunted Horizontal Ground 12" turned a scene saturated with hard as nails kickdrums into an alien world of slow-motion synthesis. This new direction sees him channeling a sort of Diaganol style big beat techno stance into some darkside drum & bass shades.
The frantic bursts of sound on ‘Ascension’ almost feel at home on some late 90s German hardcore record whilst the closing track fools you into thinking it’s an ambient affair before suddenly you’re snapped back into Kerridge’s crazy sound world.
A refreshing approach from this singular artist. Downwards and Kerridge continue to push techno one step forward while the rest of the scene begins to fall back.
