Toronto punks Metz return with their third LP for via Sub Pop. Strange Peace is a record of visceral, forthright noise rock that contains as many winning melodies as it does serrated-edge guitar tones. The three-piece make a noise twice their size from the get-go - opener ‘Mess Of Wires’ lopes forward on an urgent triple-time groove. Tracks like ‘Drained Lake’ and ‘Cellophane’ recall Cloud Nothings, The Men and The Pixies in the way they combine big hooks with ear-shredding noise. Having built their reputation on their live shows, Strange Peace goes a long way to capturing the thrill of the band in full flow. Probably something to do with the fact that Steve Albini was manning the desk on this one.
