Batu’s idiosyncratic percussion workouts are an apt choice for Hessle - indeed, one spin of Marius and you’ll be surprised that the Bristolian hasn’t made it over to the label sooner (this is their debut release together). That said, the tracks here also provide a good snapshot of where Hessle are at as they enter their second decade. Demonstrating the label’s growth to incorporate more four-on-the-floor stylings as well as their penchant for fidgety drum traxx, Marius hangs together as a whole as well as containing several pieces crying to shell down raves worldwide. The title track and ‘Off Court’ are particularly hi-NRG steppers, while closer ‘Don’t’ mimics label boss Pearson Sound’s recent forays into more ambient territory.
