The one born Kevin Palmer, better known as Best Available Technology, comes through with his first live record on Bristol’s No Corner (Boofy, Jabu, Kahn). The recording here was snatched from an hourish-long performance at Bristol’s Take 5 Cafe and evinces BAT’s command of his soundworld and ability to bring the best out of it in a live context. Samples whirr and chime atop warm throbs of bass, dreamy ambiences (recorded in real time, music concrete-style) drift in an out of focus, and the rhythms take in everything from golden-age jungle to dub techno. 60 of these have been made, and you won’t be aware of which of the two sets out artwork you’ll be getting until you receive the tape.
