Leading soundtrack outlet Mondo celebrate three decades of the Contra franchise by issuing a vinyl release of the music from the extraordinary Contra 3: The Alien Wars. Crazy time signatures and polyrhythmic percussion works come together to create some truly unique compositions here. Admittedly somewhat of an acquired taste, the epic sound worlds created by the ‘under the radar’ digital composers of the early video game era have had somewhat of a revival over the past five or six years. Proto grime, sci-fi synth and frantic electronic jazz are the order of the moment and the thirteen tracks on Contra 3 combine all three of these dubious genre tags and then some!
