Scottish hip-hop trio Young Fathers follow up ‘Tape One’ with a second offering of their unique blend of electronica, hip-hop and African music entitled ‘Tape Two’. Labeling this original sounding material experimental hip-hop would far from do it justice, as Young Fathers are intent on incorporating a wide variety of sounds into their music, culminating in a refreshingly new take on the genre. “I Heard” merges soft, almost whispering rapping with African infused drum patterns, “Queen Is Dead” is tougher, developing into a dizzying dollop of bass heavy sonics. Heavy kicks are put to work again on “Mr Martyr” with a choir like chorus and tasteful rhyming.
