Bewitching third album from James Blake whose transformation from post-Dubstep pinup to right proper alt-pop/R&B star continues apace. Featuring contributions from Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) Frank Ocean, and additional production work by Rick Rubin, The Colour In Anything lands delightfully between all three. The heartbreaking folk-blues of Vernon, the sensuous R&B bump of Ocean and the exquisite high-end production of latter-day Rubin are compressed by Blake’s own unique voice (in the studio and in the mic). Inventive albums of serious pop songs and next-gen studio trickery don’t come along all that often; be grateful James Blake is here to do the business.
