Nashville’s rock supergroup The Dead Weather return with their first album since 2010’s Sea of Cowards. Recorded between 2013 and 2015 in Jack White’s local studio, the release arrives via the musician’s Third Man imprint. Although Alison Mosshart (The Kills), Dean Fertita (Queens of the Stone Age), Jack Lawrence (City and Colour) and Jack White himself are bound by their other projects, Dodge and Burn displays nothing but focus in terms of the group’s songwriting: much in the style of its predecessor, the fuzzy guitars, energetic bass motives and rhythmic, hammering piano chords agree well with Mosshart’s mature voice, and an almost hymnal album finale prompts a gallant surprise.
