With their latest album for Warwick/Brooklyn’s Woodsist label, Portland lo-fi pop rock outfit The Woolen Men are reclaiming their hometown. Acting against increasing rents and noise complaints, Temporary Monument is their DIY statement against the loss of DIY spaces: for the three-piece, it comes in the form of carefree guitar scrapings and Smithsian chorusses (‘Alien City’). The 12 succinct pieces are uptempo attempts at subversion — despite their awareness of “getting old”, The Woolen Men still succeed in conveying a huge amount of rebellious energy.
