Glasgow’s Dixon Avenue Basement Jams welcome back fellow countrymen Hostage and Neil Landstrumm: following their 2014 debut on the label, the pair drop more excellent warehouse tools as Modini. Expanding their sound pallet, they combine muscular beats with 80s-style synths. Quite literally, that is: ‘Romance’ revamps Modern Romance’s 1981 hit ‘Salsa Rapsody’ in a bouncy makeover. The bassy melody of ‘Cisco' feels like its sequel, and the powerfully slow-burning drum machine of the Italo-disco-infused ‘Europa’ makes sure the EP stays within that century.
