French producer Philippe Hallais carries on his work as Low Jack, switching back to Parisian imprint In Paradisum for his second full-length. Sewing Machine is a logical advancement of his excellent releases for L.I.E.S. and The Trilogy Tapes, pushing his experimental techno arrangements to their noisiest limits thus far. Only over the course of Sewing Machine the overdriven bass drum manages to punch its way through its own distortedness, and Low Jack’s techno intentions are revealed. As if the title of the album wasn’t mockery enough, ‘Pocket Pussy’ reduces its industrial references to absurdity, its brutally abrasive synths formed in an accentuated rhythm emulating those typical spoken-word vocals.
