The long promised collaboration between multi-disciplinary artist Melvin Van Peebles and Jake Ferguson’s Heliocentrics ensemble arrives on LA-based rarities and obscurities label Now Again Records. Inspired by Peebles’ experimental poetry, the Last Transmission follows the abstract concept of interplanetary space and comes in the form of a twelve-piece suite. The psychedelic soundscapes evolute as prickly saxophones, multi-layered percussion and chaotic analogue sound effects. Van Peebles’ voice narrates the infinite storylines of the album – with his last appearance dating back to a release as part of Stones Throw’s Quasimoto collective in 2005, he has made this an otherworldly return.
