Following their Hydrothermal EP on Bristol’s Idle Hands, Mancunian duo AnD return to Speedy J’s Electric Deluxe with Dark Matter. The two uncompromising peak time hits are a foretaste of the techno producers’ full-length debut on the label: ‘Cosmic Strings’ employs overdriven kick drums and nervous hi-hats in a brutal 4-to-the-floor beat, with siren-like synths connoting acid. The flip side starts seething slowly and progresses with a thick looping sequence, its distant high frequencies and torn surfaces creating an eerie atmosphere.
