Fifth Wall Records regular Hound Scales is back on the imprint with his Pinky Violence EP – a nasty, agitated collection of rugged techno cuts backed by a slightly melodic remix from Tuff Sherm. The EP leads off with typically grainy textures on ‘Princip (Rubble Dub 1)’ with a gritted kick and looped vocal fragments giving a sense of rhythm; ‘Spahnners (Rubble Dub 2)’ follows with a churning undercurrent of post-apocalyptic hiss. Drawing from a minimalistic palette, ‘Youth Series (Rayon Dub 1)’ is an extended, tripping cut with the broken beat cleverly augmented by bursts of fragmented sonics whereas ‘Superior (Raylon Dub 2)’ offers a more direct rhythm with mangled synth noise building a dense paranoia. Finally, Tuff Sherm offers his remix talents on ‘Spahnners (Rubble Dub 2)’, drawing out the original’s melancholic ambience and adding a riotous percussive ensemble for something a little more ‘floor friendly.
