Released at the height of The Cure’s fame, 1989 LP ‘Disintegration’ achieved the greatest commercial success but is also arguably the group’s most overcast album. With upbeat pop-hits 'Lets Go To Bed' and 'Lovecats' in the past, ghoulishly iconic front man Robert Smith was keen for the group to return to their gothic rock roots. Poetically mournful tracks like 'Plainsong' and 'Closedown' resonate Smith’s despondence at turning 30 whilst 'Lovesong' marks a catchier point. Effects laden guitars ground the vintage ballad 'Pictures Of You', a revered Cure classic.
