On his first release for the legendary Kompakt in more than two years, Thomas Fehlman returns with two impressive cuts which engage both cerebrally and physically. A-side ‘Eye’ layers simple rhythmic statements of differing pulses to maddening effect, whilst never eschewing dancefloor functionality. The body clocks in alternately to swelling pads, tribal percussion riffs, and organ pedals which continually reconfigure into patterns with subtly different stresses and groove, making the sensation of listening somewhat akin to an SND or Sensate Focus record, albeit with a very different set of sounds employed. B-side ‘Tree’ in comparison to such wizardry feels more conventional, but is all the same a gorgeous slab of atmospheric Kompakt techno with the kind of crushed 4/4 sounds which Actress does so well adding an extra sheen.
