The wonderful music of James Leyland Kirby has always been rich in nostalgia and keenly aware of its own cultural hauntology. Now, he brings these macro-approaches down to the world of the personal - after fifteen years releasing as The Caretaker, this persona is now beginning to lose his mind to early-onset dementia. The second of the six ‘Everywhere at the End of Time’ releases finds The Caretaker’s mental capacity beginning to come apart, and as such the careful sample curation and warm crackle of BBC Radiophonic Workshop-era soundscapes becomes fugged by noise, lost in its own loops, or begins to break itself up.
