Cosmic B-Boy flavours from Etch for Sneaker Social Club on his first album proper, Ups & Downs. Collecting together dubs from the present day and dating back to 2014, Ups & Downs sees Etch further securing his place as the modern King of the (artcore) jungle. Each track is produced to a level of detail so high that if it was not for his consistent run of 12"s, we wouldn't be surprised if the had spent the last four years just crafting and fine combing these twelve tracks. Much like fellow hyper-rave cultist Zomby, Etch wears his love of all things AFX, grime and hardcore on his sleeve. Yet where Zomby pushes his sound to the absolute limits of frozen fall Eski, Etch cuts and locks his shapes to a seriously sharp drum break groove. Arriving with a bag of old skool ready chops, amens and diva vox, Ups and Downs is first rate rave revivalism of the highest order. If you were to rewind the clock 20 years or so, you'd no doubt find Etch cropping up in the same sort of circles as µ-Ziq, Luke Vibert and Squarepusher, and as such comes highly recommended for anyone hard-wired into the breakcore, drill & bass and old-school rave scene.
