Luke Vibert has operated in countless music scenes throughout his prolific career, but if there is any one sound he's most aligned himself with of late, it’s surely acid. His first full length for De:tuned is only further proof of this, keeping the ball rolling after the raw rhythms of 2021’s GRIT. with an even more dazzling and bountiful selection of energetic acid cuts.

“Fuuutuuureee!” go the woozy sighs and electrified robot voices opening ‘Machine Funk’, rising into the air like smoke before thumping kicks and whistling lasers turn the track into a playground of acid mayhem. That sci-fi feel is still embedded in the tried and true sound that Luke Vibert masterfully employs, with an eerie cinematic feel added by glassy tones that break up the beats. On the joyous ‘Stairs Wine’, starry chords and spiralling stairways of arpeggios propel the track’s bouncing rhythms forward into the urgent orders of “Open your ears, open your mind!” on ‘Moderneers Modernize’. Amidst liquid riffs and frenetic claps and shuffles are the skittering tropical drum infusions of ‘Taming Of The View’, with a deep, moody bass pushing the ticking uptempo rhythms. ‘Lucon Acid’ growls menacingly louder, its beat switches causing the track to implode before fading into the rainy, faint flutters of plucks in the background.

Machine Funk is yet another reminder that Luke Vibert is the cream of the crop when it comes to acid.
