A trusted source for Detroit-tinged emotive techno, Derek Carr returns with a multi-part EP series on Trident Recordings that plays to the legacy he’s built over the last two decades. ‘In Transit’ opens the EP on an energetic note, but if the first chapter of Elektro Statik is any indication, we’re in for a more introspective turn from Carr. ‘Mimas’ simmers things down with a pivot towards minimalist techno, but ‘A Star Dies’ and ‘Dione’ round out the set with the kind of distant nostalgia for Detroit’s golden age we’ve come to expect from the Irish producer.
