A kind of missing link between European ambient techno and Detroit electro, LA-based producer James Bernard aka Influx has been fusing disparate electronic styles since the early 1990s – and with criminally little fanfare. Hybrid Sentimento join the chorus of celebrants with a look back at his early work on Reminiscence, a rare disc of electronic masterpieces that still succeed in sounding like the distant future. Bernard is a more organic electronic producer than most, his acidic bass sequencers on ‘Love Song’ feeling that much more viscous than his peers’. Meanwhile, the dazzling synth-harp of ‘2001’ summons a vision of far-flung utopias shrouded in dense green foliage.
