Scottish post-rock survivors Mogwai continue to thrive well into their tenth LP, and they’ve lost none of their verve for big room atmospherics and watertight tension. That said, As The Love Continues follows the group’s recent lead on expanded instrumentation, placing itself among sleeper favourites like 2011’s Hardcore Will Never Die, but You Will and 2014’s Rave Tapes. The consummate parts of Mogwai are all present and correct, and we couldn’t be more thrilled.

As is Mogwai's pedigree, cinematic enormity occurs across these tracks. Bookended by two classic slow-burners ‘To The Bin My Friend, Tonight We Vacate Earth’ and ‘It’s What I Want To Do, Mum’ — both of which offer the trademark Mogwai obscure-title/affecting-music combo — As The Love Continues is packed with droning electronics, the gentle patter of drum machines and plentiful reminders that no one really does post-rock like these guys. ‘Ritchie Sacramento’ is a warped radio rock belter, built like an immaculate hot rod and implemented with a nitro-boosting engine, while the likes of ‘Dry Fantasy’ deal in the particular brand of melodic sound design that has sustained Mogwai’s career as go-to film score composers.

As The Love Continues is yet another top tier Mogwai LP, proving that there are still plenty more planets for them to conquer.
