One evening in November 2017 Graham Lambkin, Charlie McPhee and Joe McPhee got together at Charlie’s house in Poughkeepsie. Lambkin’s son Oliver in tow, the quartet set about documenting their evening of musical experimentation. Live In The Batcave is an intriguing set of home recordings that blend free improvisation, faux-naif music, concrete techniques and found sound. There are also moments when they break out into soulful songs - ‘I Stand Accused’, for instance - which are given extra poignancy by the warm graininess of the recordings. Fans of Das Kümmerling Trio may wish to come and stay at The Batcave for a night.
