Shelved indefinitely for 33 years and graciously lifted by Russian label Gost Zvuk, Health Resorts of the Caucasus is cult Moscow duo Notchnoi Prospekt’s lost work of ambient, ‘fourth world’ experimentation. Sitting somewhere between oddball DIY New Age and post-punk’s more anthropological percussion ventures, Notchnoi Prospekt’s mirror the compositional mentalities of contemporary Ryuichi Sakamoto works, albeit grounded in a downtempo minimalism. Drum machines beat alongside esoteric rhythms, and the vibe is like something out of an Andrei Tarkovsky dystopia.
