Jonny Nash rocks up at Music From Memory (Richenel, Dip In The Pool) after time spent with Snaker, Island Of The Gods and Melody As Truth. On new LP Make A Wilderness the Gaussian Curve member draws out a succession of ambient drones from tools including processed synthesisers, electroacoustic manipulations and his own voice. At times this makes for a cerebral and lovely listen - check ‘Trees Bearing Fruit’ - but Nash also uses these stretched-out sounds as a space in which to stoke unease. For instance, the clashing tones of ‘Place’ could pass for one of Jonny Greenwood’s more unsettling compositions.
