Romperayo provide the second release on the fledgling Souk label. Much like fellow Colombians Meridian Brothers, the sound that Romperayo go for is a psychedelic update of Cumbia. New LP Que Jue? takes Cumbia’s propulsive, scratchy rhythms and turns them into something altogether more hallucinatory by piling on studio effects, synthesisers and fuzz. The result is a trippy fusion of old styles and new sounds. There is also a little crossover with the new wave of Batida currently exploding out of Portugal.
