Following ten years of mixed disciplinary work across the globe, acclaimed artist and musician Mira Calix returns to Warp for the first time in a decade with utopia.
Signalling her return to electronic instrumentation after she immersed herself within installations, exhibition work and even found time for a live stream, live and direct from the Bleep office, Mira Calix' first new Warp recordings since her 2008 album 'The Elephant In The Room: 3 Commissions' finds her exploring ideas of what constitutes a utopia within times where culture is continuously accelerated. Describing her work as the outcome of working with many hands, many speakers, many materials, many musicians: utopia spells out four tracks of found sound and offcuts of existing sonic material from her personal library, all pieced together in an abstracted collage style that at times could be an acoustic alternative to Theo Burt's Gloss or Kassel Jaeger experiments. Yet, all comparisons aside; utopia is first and foremost the sound of a classic Warp artist, breaking the boundaries of electronic and acoustic music with an always forward-thinking quest to pioneer the hypnotic groove.
Newcomers to Mira Calix and fans of old alike will find much to absorb themselves into in this rich sound world...
