Nordic disco-dub firebrand DJ Sotofett is joined by vocalist Maimouna Haugen for a new EP that combines club energy with a flair for storytelling. Opener ‘C’est l’aventure’ is built on a rolling breakbeat and a bass lick by Haugen’s father/Kambo Super Sound member Haugen Inna Di Bu. Atop this, the younger Haugen describes their migration from Cote d’Ivoire to the chillier climes of Scandinavia in a drawl that brings to mind a French-language Gil Scott-Heron. An accompanying ‘Dubplate Mix’ makes things more DJ-friendly - it’s not a million miles away from Henrik Schwarz’s timeless remix of Emmanuel Jal’s ‘Kuar’.
