Medical Records (Martin Jenkins, Null And Void) drop a full-length from Texas Recordings Underground boss Gavin Guthrie. The Totality is an LP of roughneck, usually acidic techno that sometimes threatens to turn into a full-on industrial rager. Many of the tunes here recall the likes of Neil Landstrumm and Peder Mannerfelt in the way Guthrie allows the grooves to become progressively more unhinged as they build up steam. Be he overseeing a 303 freakout or preventing the synths of ‘The Impending’ from overheating, Guthrie always manages to balance abrasive sonics with dancefloor appeal. It makes The Totality and intense and compelling listen.
