Singer/songwriter/producer Sampha returns to the Young label for his long-awaited second album entitled Lahai. Recorded with a verifiable who’s who of artists reshaping pop, R&B and electronica in their own unique visions (including members of Kokoroko, Black Midi, Yaeji, and Yusseff Dayes, to name a few), Lahai is a pointed celebration of friendship and the ways that we connect to one another. With a title borrowed from Sampha’s grandfather’s name (also his middle name), and the album’s communal and warmhearted sensitivity seems derived by a similar sort of paternal wisdom. Tracks like ‘Dancing Circles’ and ‘Can’t Go Back’ commemorate and also reckon with life’s path and the way we share the ups and downs with the ones we love most.
