Goon Club Allstars (Mssingno, Rudeboyz) do a little digging with this one. KG’s two originals on this release hail from as far back as 2007, when the producer was studying in Nottingham. ‘Midnight (Flute Riddim)’ and ‘808’ did the rounds on UK Funky notice boards at the time, but being away from the scene’s London epicentre they didn’t gain too much traction. Fast forward a decade and you can see why Moleskin has seen fit to add them to the Goon Club roster. Both tracks are sparky bubblers reminiscent of Lil Silva, all thick synth chords and skittish lead lines. Hitmakerchinx turns ‘Midnight’ into the FDM banger it was always going to become in his hands, while Bronx up-and-comer BSNYEA gives ‘808’ a raucous makeover. This one was worth the wait.
