While they had an oddly prescient name - The Beginning of the End split up after just two albums - this Bahamian band of brothers could legitimately claim to be one of the most globally successful Caribbean acts of the 70s. Now Strut Records are re-releasing their pair of LPs to be enjoyed by a new generation. This self-titled eponymous record might have dropped a half-decade after their famous 1971 debut Funky Nassau, but the nine tracks here are a similarly exuberant mix of sounds. The group’s trick was to combine the polyrhythmic percussive style of their native islands with the slick contemporaneous funk and soul styles of black America.
