Every Country's Sun is the ninth album from Mogwai, arriving twenty years on since their debut album Young Team cemented them as one of the most exciting groups within alternative music. Recorded with Dave Fridmann (known for his work with Mercury Rev and The Flaming Lips and with whom the group previously worked with on Come On Die Young and ROCK ACTION) Every Country's Sun is a brilliant reminder of the true power that has seen the group and acts as further proof (if anywhere needed) of why they are revered as such a legendary group within post-rock.

Arriving at a time when the group is increasingly active, Every Country's Sun follows on from their collaboration with NIN's Trent Reznor on the waterlogged soundtrack to Before The Flood. This new album finds the duo returning to the sound of early classics such as Come On Die Young and Mr Beast, yet arriving armed with a new spate of influences and sonic studio wizardry that ensures the record has a refreshing quality to it.

From the subsonic build up of 'Coolverine' it's clear that Every Country's Sun is a classic Mogwai record in the making, littered with tightly wound post-rock chord dynamics presenting themselves with a newly found melancholic melodic flow that sets out to capture and hold all that treads into its wake.

Every Country's Sun is an album that builds on the group's past achievements whilst showing that they're not resting on their laurels, but continue to push forward to scope out new sounds and ideas within the remits that surround their brightly lit sound. A brilliant record that for us might even usurp the recent period highlight Rave Tapes, and if you know what that means you are circling within the right solar system.
