John Moreland’s fourth LP - and first for 4AD - is a well-heeled collection of Americana. The eleven songs of Big Bad Luv are the sort of heartfelt country-rock that Courtney Marie Andrews has been breathing new life into over the past couple of years. Moreland’s voice has a bit of grit to it, something that gives extra character to his sonorous southern drawl. Numbers like ‘Ain’t We Gold’ and ‘It Don’t Suit Me (Like Before)’ bring up easy comparisons with Bruce Springsteen.
