Lloyd Cole (of 1980s huge-indie-pop band, The Commotions) taps up the Germanic connection here with this album of electronics in association with prime German reissue imprint Bureau B and godlike Krautrock genius Hans Joachim Roedelius (Cluster, Harmonia et.al). 1D is the manifestation of an early meeting in 2011 between Cole and Roedelius whereby the pair embarked on a new modular set-ups and begin building a studio inspired by Eno’s idea of generative music (music ever-changing, created by a system). The results here are perfect miniatures in electronic minimalism: gently bubbling rhythms, tones, drones and melody at play in a style that references the names above but also the gentle, discreet ambient of usumu Yokota, Alva Noto, Conrad Schnitzler and of course Eno himself.
