Sumptuous single vinyl pressing on Heavenly Sweetness taking the post-war sound of Ethiopian soul and jazz onto one delicious compilation (material carefully curated from the vast archives of the Èthiopiques series). First released in 2007 Heavenly Sweetness caves in to demand and returns these bewitching sounds to wax once more. This is Addis Ababa dancehall music, you can practically feel the sweat dripping off the ceiling as that trademark melding of Western dance styles –hot jazz, angular funk, wailing blues- and Ethiopian modal harmonics play off each other in a riot of style and colour and vivid organ grooves. Picks here include the louchè funk of Samuel Belay , ‘Aynotchesh Yerefu’ and the sleazy Hammond wig-out of Tamrat Ferendji & Sensation Band – ‘Antchin Yagegnulet’.
