Seminal DNB science from Source Direct lovingly remastered and reissued by Boddika's Nonplus label for a new generation to discover. From 94' till the early 2000's Jim Baker & Phil Aslett as Source Direct (and various other aliases) produced some of the most futuristic underground electronic music ever committed to wax, mixing a variety of tougher-than-tough breakbeats with sci-fi atmospheres and a sinister urge for escapism from an urban-laced decay so FWD-thinking it's rarely been topped. Black Rose was originally released in 94 by the pair under the alias Hokusai and stands as one of the finest productions from the group, across its 6 minutes we are subjected to a sinister array of shark tooth breakbeats and claustrophobic hardcore jungle atmospheres with razor sharp basslines slicing up an atmosphere of tense darkside euphoria with an evil grin peering through the smoke. To top it off Blawan has been enlisted on remix duties on the flip, taking the original and crafting an industrial techno banger with extra bass weight. Massive respect due to Boddika for reissuing this and the future SD reissues planned; time to exorcise the demons.
