Rogue Music sees scene lynchpin Seth Troxler join forces with New Yorker Phil Moffa, and serving up two tracks of sleek, stripped-back Detroit techno for UK label Hypercolour. On the A-side, ‘Blue Rawls’ is a slow builder. Scratches and howls gradually fill the space around its nagging, short-loop bass-line, and its ethereal strings and soaring operatic vocals create an uneasy alliance between anxiety and exultation. ‘Meet The Butcha’ kicks in with a more familiar house groove, but with flashes of searing, twisted saw lines ramping up the tension and threatening to derail it at any moment. These are compelling, edgy tracks from two producers at the top of their game.
