Seattle-based experimental label Further Records vamp up their catalogue with a full-length from Antwerp’s Hans Dens, better known under his Innercity moniker. On A Lion’s Baptism, the drone producer moves towards more multi-faceted, eerie soundscapes – ever-expanding his musical and textural pallet. The poly-harmonic synth loop of ‘Her Prints Will Light The Path’ conjectures a vocal narrative that seems lost in the distance of the multi-layered glittering of sound. Although freed from structure and form, the beat-based skeletons of songs like ‘Bodycells Fortress’ are reminiscent of techno, whereas the rough surfaces of ‘Blind Guide Killing A Lioness’ place the album well within the trajectory of the label’s openness-embracing aesthetic.
