Bristol's mighty Punch Drunk collects 12 tracks from the label's second wave, main man Peverelist picking the choicest cuts that represent the shift in taste and tempo over the past few years. From the opening clamour of Hodge's rattling 'Resolve' and Tessela's syncopated drums, and the narcotic swirls of Kahn's 'Helter Skelter', all factors of the label's success are present and correct. Kowton turns in a stellar rework of Peverelist's 'Roll With The Punches' from 2007, turning a haunting slice of dubstep into a frenetic workout for 2014. That old dubstep sound is still here in tracks from Zhou, as are the more out there sounds of Bass Clef and Ekoplekz. All in all Worth The Weight Vol 2 is a worthy state of the nation for the label, and a perfect reminder of - or introduction to - some of its highlights.
