Huxley returns to Will Saul’s Aus label for The Machine, teaming up with some unlikely collaborators in the process. ‘Callin’ sees Michael Dodman team up with Roger Sanchez (operating under his S-Man moniker), a vintage slice of anthemic house, vocal and bass led but thriving off some choice lush synth action. Vocalist Jack Wilby turns up on ‘Machina’, a track that kicks off like a snarling techno number but moves into glistening melodic territory in tune with Wilby’s soulful vocals. ‘Tendered Mess’ is on a garage tip, heavy on the cut-up vocal samples and hi-hats, while ‘Oil Spill’ rounds out the release with emotive aplomb, syncopated synth patterns hovering over fizzling claps.
