Alt-folk group Dark Captain’s Dan Carney goes solo under his new Astronauts moniker. His mellow debut single ‘Skydive’ arrives on London’s Lo Recordings, the minor key folk-pop song a real show of his genuine songwriting talent. The drums blend in so subtly that it’s hard to consciously notice them. Carney’s repetitive falsetto vocals, the ceaseless ukulele arpeggio and rich cello notes are reminiscent of the genre’s Swedish masters Junip. ‘Skydive’s’ faultlessness is finished off by his associative, abstract lyrics, creating a space for sonically induced dreaming.
